Heyla, Misty fans!

Can you believe that this is the thirtieth newsletter that we’ve put out since we became the co-Presidents of Queen’s Own?! Our monthly newsletter is now sent out to 118 people (up a bit from the couple dozen or so we started out with <g>). In this issue we welcome four more members, which brings us to a total of 574 approved personae! We have at least half a dozen more pending approval, and there are several dozen folks on the Pending List who are hard at work creating their personae.

We are seeing a lot of interest from overseas. We have a new QO chapter forming in Germany. We will let you know as soon as we have contact information and a working URL for this new organization. Unfortunately, Austral’a’in, our Australian chapter of QO, is about to publish its final issue. Is anyone interested in adopting this excellent organization, which Cassandra Vuksa has run so well for so many years? If so, please contact Danya at Legend@malcor.com.

Misty has her own website again! The new URL is: http://www.mercedeslackey.com. Check it out for the latest publication information and other goodies.

By way of publication news, Exile’s Honor, the new Valdemar novel about Alberich, is out! Watch your local bookstores for it or visit the Valdemar page of our online bookstore at http://www.dragonlordsnet.com/bkmlvs.htm. (Remember, a portion of the proceeds of books purchased through our store goes toward keeping QO memberships free. We greatly appreciate your support!) Also, Take a Thief, Shadow of the Lion, and The Valdemar Companion will all be coming out in paperback soon.

With Moonstar working six days a week and my eldest son in Kindergarten and to his ears in activities, we’re finding ourselves rather crunched for time when it comes to taking care of all the little things that go into running QO. Does anyone have old newsletters that are not yet online that s/he could type in for us? (We have the copies, but no time to type them in.) Does anyone live in Southern California who could watch Danya’s kids for a while so she can code the old newsletters and The Compass Rose? Can anyone help with compiling the list of Ren. Fairs and Cons for each QO newsletter? If you can help out with any of these tasks, please contact Danya at Legend@malcor.com.

Don’t forget! There’s a copy of the hardbound, 3-1 volume set, Queen’s Own (all three Arrows stories in one book) that will go to the person who contributes the most art and/or stories to our approved fanzines. The winner will be announced in our December newsletter. There’s still time to submit.

We do not have an interviewee this month. If you would like to participate, please send Danya (Legend@malcor.com) your answers to the questions below. (If you are an editor, contact Danya; there is a separate questionnaire for people who are in charge of publications.)

We have individual handouts for aspiring Heralds, Healers, Bards, Blues, Mercenaries, Tayledras, Shin'a'in, and White Winds Sorcerers/Sorceresses and instructions on how to work for Herald-Mage status if you are already a Herald or for a Kal'enedral if you are already a Shin'a'in. You can find these handouts online at http://www.dragonlordsnet.com/qohandouts.htm.

You need a release form (online at http://www.dragonlordsnet.com/qomlrel2.htm) if you write a story set in Misty's worlds or using any of her characters. You do not need a release for a character sketch, poem or filk. All Misty wants to do is protect her characters and her worlds. Send the release form (you do NOT need to include the story) to Misty c/o High Flight Arts and Letters, P.O. Box 2970, Claremore, OK 74017. Do NOT include the original of the release form with your persona material; send it to Misty. Send a copy to us.

All personae materials should be sent to the QO address or submitted by e-mail to Legend@malcor.com and healermoon@gmail.com.

Lost . . .

One of the challenges running an online club is that people don’t always leave a forwarding address when they move . We are missing current e-mail addresses for the following members:

If you know any of these folks, please have them contact Danya at Legend@malcor.com with a current e-mail address.

From Herald-Mage Danya Winterborn:

Heyla!

My life turned into a real zoo this September, between my eldest son starting Kindergarten and my mother moving to a new condo! I’ve added PTA, Soccer, Y-Guides, School Fundraisers, homework (Yes, they do have homework in Kindergarten these days.), Back-to-School Night, Classroom Volunteer time and a bunch of other stuff to my already overloaded schedule. My asthma had taken a real turn for the worse, what with all the local forest fires, but the recent rain has improved our air quality-any my health-dramatically. I apologize for being so slow about responding to those of you who have contacted us, and I truly wish I had more time to code material for QO’s website. Without Moonstar to watch my kids anymore, though, things are simply going to be a bit slower getting online. (Is anyone in Southern California who could come visit for a few hours now and then and watch my kids while I code? If so, contact me at Legend@malcor.com.)

In spite of the chaos around here, I’ve actually been making some significant progress with my research about Lucius Artorius Castus, the man who I think was the historical King Arthur. I’m now in touch with an antiquities dealer in Florida who may have a piece of Castus’s grandfather’s sarcophagus and more information on the family villa in Campania. Perhaps it’s a good thing that I’ve been delayed in finishing Castus’s biography. The recent finds have added a lot of certainty to what I can say about this second-century Roman officer. I now have more than enough material to put together the biography-when I get a chance to sit and write <g>.

I finally cleared enough of the "To-Be-Read" material off my nightstand that I have plenty of room for Exile’s Honor when it arrives "G". I’ve already enjoyed reading the sample chapters online, and I can’t wait to read the rest of the book!

In the meantime, I’ll be reviewing the wonderful personae that the people on our Pending List have been sending to us. I’m very excited to see so many new members joining QO.

Happy Halloween and Samhain!

Zhai’helleva,

Danya
