Heyla, Misty fans!
Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there! We hope you all have a great month.
This is our third anniversary of running QO. It’s hard to believe that the last three years have gone so quickly! You are receiving this newsletter late because Danya was in Bochum, Germany, giving a lecture entitled "The Campanians of the Round Table: The Artorii, Flora and the Holy Grail" on April 30th then in Campania, Italy doing a bit of fieldwork before returning to her new home (Yes, she moved within hours of leaving the country for a week. No, that wasn’t on purpose, but sometimes you have to jump at life’s opportunities when they present themselves <G>.)
There are 579 people with approved personae in Queen’s Own (472 Heralds, 9 Herald-Mages, 28 Bards, 1 Blue, 3 Guards, 22 Healers, 3 Mercenaries, 11 Shin’a’in, 3 Sorcerers/Sorceresses, 34 Tayledras and 2 "Others"; the numbers don’t add up exactly because of a few characters Judith, the first president, approved in two categories before the rule that we can’t combine handouts was adopted.). The newsletter goes out monthly to 136 active members. (Not bad, since we started out three years ago with the newsletter going out to about a dozen members <g>.) We’re still trying to sort out how many active and inactive chapters and zines we have. (We’ll give you those statistics when we get the time to verify that information.) Before our mailing lists glitched a couple of weeks ago (see below), we had about 150 people actively working on developing personae, so we’re hoping to see the club continue to grow.
Publication News: The release date for The Wizard of Karres seems to have been moved up to June.
Coming up in September, Misty’s The Outstretched Shadow: The Obsidian Trilogy: Book One will be released in paperback.
October will be a busy month for Misty releases. Look for To Light A Candle: The Obsidian Trilogy, Book 2 (with James Mallory) October 1, 2004 (That’s according to the press. Misty’s website says that the book being released is Shadow Mountain, also with James Mallory, and that the sequel, To Light a Candle, won’t be released until later.). Sanctuary (the sequel to Joust and Alta) should hit the bookstore shelves. Also in October, we are anticipating the hardcover release of Phoenix and Ashes (which is set in the same universe as Fire Rose and Serpent's Shadow). Exile’s Valor should be released in paperback the same month.
Stoned Souls is still on track for release January 1, 2005.
Misty is also working on Ill Met By Moonlight with Roberta Gellis (sequel to This Scepter'd Isle), Much Fall Of Blood with Flint and Freer (sequel to This Rough Magic), and Music To My Sorrow with Rosemary Edgehill (sequel to Mad Maudlin).
In Memoriam: We have received word that Julianna J. "JJ" Routhier (Herald Kevyn Micahsdaughter) has crossed to the Havens. We shall miss her greatly. Her husband, Joshua Routhier, writes: "My wife JJ loved this group very much but I must ask as she is no long with us that her e-mail be removed from this list." If you have JJ’s address on your system, please honor his request.
Mailing Lists: We had a major glitch with our mailing lists a few weeks back. For some unknown reason our provider deleted all of them. If you are a member of Queen’s Own and wish to rejoin the QO chat list, you may do so at http://www.dragonlordsnet.com/qochat.htm. If you are not yet a member of QO and wish to join/rejoin the Pending list, you’ll need to sign up again at http://www.dragonlordsnet.com/qochat.htm. (We did not have rosters for those two lists, so they could not be restored.) Danya has restored the Vanyel Fan Club list from an old roster; if you are a newer member, you need to resubscribe. You should be able to do so at http://www.dragonlordsnet.com/vfcchat.htm. Also, if you were a member of the Dragonlords writers’ group Scriptorium, you’ll need to sign up again at http://www.dragonlordsnet.com/write.htm. (There was no roster for that one, either.) We’re sorry for the inconvenience, and we’ll be looking into the possibility of changing to a more reliable provider once Danya gets time to settle into her new home.
Wedding News: Jennifer Mackay AKA Herald Mallea D'Lar writes: "I am getting married on Aug. 21, 2004. My fiance's name is Michael Galicia. He is of Filipino heritage, born in Canada, but naturalized and raised in the USA. He is on active duty in the Army at Fort Lewis, WA.
"We have been very busy planning and getting ready for our wedding. He is waiting for his medical retirement from the Army due to a severe neck injury he suffered last year when his unit was preparing to leave for Iraq. Mike served in the first Gulf War, and I'm glad he didn't wind up going, otherwise I wouldn't have met him! :) He's the sweetest, gentlest, kindest man, and I'm very lucky! :) I'm very happy, as well as busy, but otherwise I'm holding my sanity together.
"Just thought I'd share this news with the other members of QO."
Chapter News: Announcing a new chapter of Queen’s Own! Herald Lily has opened the Valdemar Estate Waystation in Australia. See their ad below for details.

For definitions of our fannish jargon, read the 12-page booklet "Pros & Cons: An Introduction to Fandom" written by Elizabeth Barrette. Send $1.00 and a $0.37 stamp (or $1.00 and 2 IRCs) to Queen's Own, P.O. Box 749, Laguna Beach, CA, 92652. Make checks payable to "Linda Malcor" in US funds only.
For orders shipping in the US, I've instituted a maximum shipping cost of $3.85. Multi-zine orders, which can be shipped in a flat rate envelope (usually 3 of the smaller zines, or 2 of the larger zines), will be sent Priority Mail; larger orders will be sent Media Mail Insured, which is only slightly slower and doesn't have the zone rates (which wouldn't work with my shopping cart). Smaller orders will be sent First Class.
I take credit cards via PayPal, which is the cart's only payment option, but the cart can be used to calculate shipping, and checks/money orders mailed to Green Dragon Press, c/o Devin Harris, 4531 N. Kelishan St., Pahrump, NV 89060.
Except as noted, zines are printed on high-quality, bright white paper, comb bound, with cardstock covers. Story excerpts and cover art-as well as submission guidelines and PayPal ordering information-can be found at http://www.greendragonpress.net/misty.htm. To order via snail mail, send check or money order (payable to Devin Harris; US funds only) to Green Dragon Press, c/o Devin Harris, 4531 N. Kelishan St., Pahrump, NV 89060.
Note regarding Shards of Autumn: While this zine is officially out of print and no longer available on the website, a few copies are left over from convention appearances. Any remaining copies from MediaWest will be available at that con until they sell out; the others are being returned to me and will be auctioned off at http://www.auctionfen.com until they are gone. I also occasionally auction off zines which returned from cons a bit shopworn, so it’s a good site to check periodically.
We have individual handouts for aspiring Heralds, Healers, Bards, Blues, Mercenaries, Tayledras, Shin'a'in, and White Winds Sorcerers/Sorceresses and instructions on how to work for Herald-Mage status if you are already a Herald or for a Kal'enedral if you are already a Shin'a'in. You can find these handouts online at http://www.dragonlordsnet.com/qohandouts.htm.
You need a release form (online at http://www.dragonlordsnet.com/qomlrel2.htm) if you write a story set in Misty's worlds or using any of her characters. You do not need a release for a character sketch, poem or filk. All Misty wants to do is protect her characters and her worlds. Send the release form (you do NOT need to include the story) to Misty c/o High Flight Arts and Letters, P.O. Box 2970, Claremore, OK 74017. Do NOT include the original of the release form with your persona material; send it to Misty. Send a copy to us.
All personae materials should be sent to the QO address or submitted by e-mail to Legend@malcor.com and healermoon@gmail.com.
If you were working on a persona who is no longer listed at http://www.dragonlordsnet.com/qochat.htm that means we have not heard from you in over a year. To revive your persona, simply message Danya at Legend@malcor.com and tell her that your persona is in "Deep Storage." She will pull it out for you and reactivate your submission.
If you are a returning member who has recently activated your membership in Queen’s Own and we have forgotten to list you, message Danya at Legend@malcor.com, and she’ll make sure you are greeted in the next newsletter.
One of the challenges running an online club is that people don’t always leave a forwarding address when they move If you know any of these folks, please have them contact Danya at Legend@malcor.com with a current e-mail address.
Heyla All-
As I have had a very momentous week, I am writing early so that we can have the newsletter done before Danya goes to Germany.
The good news is that I got my first IT (Information Technology) job in tech support for a company called Agricultural Data Systems (http://www.touchmemory.com). I am very happy with the salary and hours. For the first time in years I will have Saturdays off. I start on Monday (April 12th), and I have a little homework to do before I start.
I finish school on May 19th and go to Phoenix in July for my graduation ceremony. I plan on leaving Thursday, July 22nd, and returning on Sunday, July 25th. I plan on touring the PetSmart headquarters while I am there. One of the tech managers made me promise to say hi to the programmers on the 4th floor.
The bad news is that I got in a serious car accident on the 6th of April. A semi tractor-trailer was trying to merge into my lane. I tried to move over to the left, but there was a car there. So I overcorrected back to the right as I hit the brakes. The end result of this was my truck rolling two and a half times across three lanes of traffic before landing on the passenger side window. Luckily I was in a well-built car and wearing a seat belt. I didn’t break anything or need stitches. I did have a bad road rash covering the top half my arm and two serious divots (holes) in my elbow as well as probable soft tissue damage to my left shoulder and wrist. I have appointments to have this checked out next week.
My last day at PetSmart is June 12th, and, with my school schedule and new job, this means my replies are likely to be slowed even further. I apologize in advance. Please keep writing!
Hugs-
