Heyla, Misty fans!

Happy Mother’s Day to all you mothers and mothers-to-be out there! Hope you all have a great day.

Here we are once again at our anniversary issue of the newsletter! This one marks three years since we became the co-Presidents of Queen’s Own. By way of statistics, we now have 468 approved Heralds, 26 Bards, one Blue (Hi, Devyn!), three Guardsmen, 21 Healers, three Mercenaries, 11 Shin’a’in, three Sorceresses, 34 Tayledras, and two folks whom we aren’t exactly sure how to classify . That makes 572 members, 123 of whom are currently active in the club. We also have another 123 people whom we know about who are working on their persona submissions! The counter is not currently working on the website (Sorry we haven’t had time to fix that yet.), but we’ve had about 100,000 visitors to our site!

For those who have asked, Misty, Larry and company were not harmed by the recent tornadoes in Oklahoma. Thanks to all of you for your concern.

Publication News: Come August, look for Mad Maudlin. The Shadow Of The Lion will be released in Mass Market Paperback in September. Scheduled for October 2003 in hardcover are Exile's Valor (the sequel to Exile’s Honor) and The Outstretched Shadow (formerly Shadow Mountain). In November 2003 Misty has a story that will be appearing in Anne McCaffrey’s Brain Ships. Due out in December 2003 is Sun In Glory (A Valdemar Anthology) and This Rough Magic. Also scheduled for 2003 is This Scepter'd Isle and Stoned Souls (with Josepha Sherman). In 2004 look for The Godmother Heir from Harlequin and Alta, the sequel to Joust. Also coming from Misty Elvenbred (with Andre Norton), Phoenyx and Ashes, A Circus Of Witches and Queen of Air & Darkness.

Membership Seals: We’ve had several people express interest in a Queen’s Own Membership Seal graphic that can be displayed on members’ websites, so here is the official announcement requesting submissions for the Official Seal Contest. We’re looking for something that is classy and that coordinates with the website/webring/buttons/etc., something that is not necessarily reflective of just one of the person types that are featured in the club. We’d prefer to see images in the 200 x 200 pixel range. Please send a .jpg of your design to Danya at Legend@malcor.com by August 15th. (If you can’t scan it in, you can send the image by hardcopy to the QO P.O. Box, but make sure you include a note that tells us that this image is for the Seal contest. We’ll announce the design in the September newsletter.

RPG: Moonstar and Danya were the only two folk to show up at the last RPG, so we’re assuming that Monday nights are a bad time for everyone. If you’re interested in RPGing through QO, please contact Danya at Legend@malcor.com and let her know what days and times would be good for you.

Chat List: If you haven’t received mail from the QO chatlist for a while, check your preference page by following the link at http://www.dragonlordsnet.com/qochat.htm. Excessive bounces (caused when your mail box is full, a server goes down, your forget to update your e-mail address or any of a number of other things happen) result in your subscription being suspended until the problem is fixed.

A plea for help: Blue Devyn, Editor of Companions’ Grove, sent this plea for help: "Thanks to a new (hectic) job and having to reformat my hard drive (ack), I have lost track of my tribbers! If you contributed to Companions' Grove or contacted me about illustrating or about a novella, I need you to e-mail me at devin@greendragonpress.net so I can put you back in my address book (and have my poor fading memory refreshed). I know for sure I need to hear from Laura Cameron, Royce Day, Heather Arnold, Laura Felton, Chell Cornett, and Gillian Royce; if I've missed anyone who contributed or promised a contribution to Companions' Grove 8, please e-mail me and let me know that, too--I'm working from the table of contents page, so anything which wasn't already formatted into the zine when the computer went poof isn't on my list."

Authors and Artists: All of our zines are screaming for submissions! You can find submission information below as well as at http://www.dragonlordsnet.com/qofanfic.htm. Everyone who is a member of the club had to write a bio and a family/friends piece. If you haven’t already done so, send your work along to one of our zines! Club members would love to read what you wrote and would like to get to know your persona.

We’re running so late in getting this newsletter out (a thousand apologies) that we’re going to skip the interview once again this time. Hopefully we will resume our interviews next month.

Herald-Mage Adept Danya Winterborn and Healer Adept Moonstar

Member News:

For definitions of our fannish jargon, read the 12-page booklet "Pros & Cons: An Introduction to Fandom" written by Elizabeth Barrette. Send $1.00 and a $0.37 stamp (or $1.00 and 2 IRCs) to Queen's Own, P.O. Box 749, Laguna Beach, CA, 92652. Make checks payable to "Linda Malcor" in US funds only.

Local chapters:

Zines and Newsletters:

  • Austral'a'in: Editor: Cassandra Vuksa. We print fiction (both fanfic on Velgarth and other fantasy stories), poetry, art, reviews, recipes, articles, personas, pen pal ads and stacks more! This fanzine is up for adoption. Austral'a'in is up for adoption. If you are interested in adopting the chapter, contact Cassandra Vuksa, garou@netspeed.com.au.

  • Children of Velgarth: Editor: Kendra Renaud, P.O. Box 749, Laguna Beach, CA 92652. I publish new and old personae, even previously published persona if asked by members in this new, official QO zine. I will only accept what was sent in for your persona to Queen's Own to be recognized. Any fan fiction written later should be sent to one of the other zines who really need it to keep their zines going. This fanzine will be published periodically when it reaches 80 pages or so to keep costs at $5.00 payable in U.S. funds or 12 IRCs. Make checks payable to "Kendra Renaud". The fee covers the cost of printing and mailing; you may share (but not duplicate!) copies of the fanzine. Watch the Queen's Own newsletter for release dates. Volume 2, Issue 2 is now available! For the contents list and additional information, visit http://www.dragonlordsnet.com/qozine.htm. (Special Note: Make sure you use the P.O. Box Address and not my home address since I’m moving at the end of May. I don’t want any orders to go astray.)

  • Companions' Grove: Editor: Devin Harris (Blue Devyn). Companions' Grove still needs stories and artists…particularly artists willing to illustrate stories! ! (Remember, all contributors get a free copy of the zine in which their work appears.) Volumes Seven and Eight are full, and awaiting the illustrations and final layout. Volume Nine is open to submissions. Unfortunately, I’ve had to increase some prices, due to an increase in the cost of running the zines and another upcoming postal increase. Current prices (not including shipping within the U.S.) are:

    • Companions' Grove Volume One - $4.00 ($4.75 with color cover)
    • Companions' Grove Volume Two - $5.60 ($6.35 with color cover)
    • Companions' Grove Volume Three - $5.20 ($5.95 with color cover)
    • Companions' Grove Volume Four - $4.20 ($4.95 with color cover)
    • Companions' Grove Volume Five - $7.00 ($7.75 with color cover)
    • Companions' Grove Volume Six - $5.80 ($6.55 with color cover)
    • Companions' Grove Volume Seven - $5.20 ($5.95 with color cover)
    • The Danya Winterborn Saga - $5.20
    • Endgame - $3.85
    • Fire Eyes - $4.40
    • Shards of Autumn - $3.90
    • The Sum of Duty - $5.80
    • Do or Dye: A Guide to Companion Camouflage - $1.25
    • Cat's Cradle - $7.60

For orders shipping in the US, I've instituted a maximum shipping cost of $3.85. Multi-zine orders which can be shipped in a flat rate envelope will be sent Priority Mail; larger orders will be sent Media Mail Insured, which is only slightly slower and doesn't have the zone rates (which wouldn't work with my shopping cart). Smaller orders will be sent First Class.

I take credit cards via PayPal, which is the cart's only payment option, but the cart can be used to calculate shipping, and checks/money orders mailed to Green Dragon Press, c/o Devin Harris, 4531 N Kelishan St, Pahrump, NV 89060.

Zines are printed on high-quality, bright white paper, comb bound, with cardstock covers. Story excerpts and cover art-as well as international pricing, submission guidelines, and PayPal ordering information-can be found at http://www.greendragonpress.net/misty.htm . To order via snail mail, send check or money order (payable to Devin Harris; US funds only) to Green Dragon Press, c/o Devin Harris, 4531 N. Kelishan St., Pahrump, NV 89060. People outside the US should go directly to http://www.greendragonpress.net/international.htm and check out the price break for buying zines in threes, before they go to the main page and get scared by the per-zine shipping.

Collegium News:

We have individual handouts for aspiring Heralds, Healers, Bards, Blues, Mercenaries, Tayledras, Shin'a'in, and White Winds Sorcerers/Sorceresses and instructions on how to work for Herald-Mage status if you are already a Herald or for a Kal'enedral if you are already a Shin'a'in. You can find these handouts online at http://www.dragonlordsnet.com/qohandouts.htm.

You need a release form (online at http://www.dragonlordsnet.com/qomlrel2.htm) if you write a story set in Misty's worlds or using any of her characters. You do not need a release for a character sketch, poem or filk. All Misty wants to do is protect her characters and her worlds. Send the release form (you do NOT need to include the story) to Misty c/o High Flight Arts and Letters, P.O. Box 2970, Claremore, OK 74017. Do NOT include the original of the release form with your persona material; send it to Misty. Send a copy to us.

All personae materials should be sent to the QO address or submitted by e-mail to Legend@malcor.com and healermoon@gmail.com.

  • Welcome, Herald Riana Malkor, Chosen by Raeven and Gifted with Mindspeech, low-strength Farsight, and Foresight. Sumiko Chambers wrote about Riana and her family and friends and sent a story and four poems.

  • Mary Wilson brings us Tayledras Adept Starfeather k’Valdemar and her bondbird, Brayn (a brown hawk). Starfeather has Mindspeech with humans, bondbirds and other races. Mary wrote about Starfeather and her family and friends, wrote another story and sent it to Riding Circuit, a QO zine.

From Healer Adept Moonstar:

Our three-year anniversary. We are now seeing a pickup in the amount personas submitted, and I have enjoyed reading them immensely. I have also noticed that the chapter newsletters and zines have been farther and fewer between; I hope that they pick up. They need many more submissions to keep going. I have read your work; you are all great writers and artists. Let’s see more of your work in print this year.

I am much recovered from my shoulder surgery and looking forward to going back to work this month. Last May I hoped I was done, and it will be the same way this month. I have had lots of Physical Therapy. I am down to twice a week now, for the next month or so.

Not much other news . . . Keep writing everyone I love to read it.

Hugs-

Moonstar
