Heyla, Misty fans!
Welcome to the one year anniversary issue of the Queen’s Own newsletter under the co-Presidency of Herald-Mage Master Danya Winterborn and Healer Adept Moonstar! Moonstar gives you details about what has happened in the past year and how the club is growing.
In other news, the hardcover of Elvenborn should be out any day, and the paperback of Brightly Burning is scheduled for release in June. The hardcover of The Serpent’s Shadow came out in March, and the paperback for The Fire Rose became available in January. If you wish to purchase any of these or other works by Misty, please do so through the Dragonlord’s Bookstore at http://www.dragonlordsnet.com/bkstore.htm. (The Mercedes Lackey page is at http://www.dragonlordsnet.com/bkfanml.htm.) A portion of the proceeds from all sales goes to pay for our website, PO box and other business expenses. This is how we keep memberships in QO free, so we really appreciate your support.
We’re really looking forward to the special events coming up in Southern California. On May 16th, both Danya and Moonstar will be at a Barnes & Noble to discuss Misty’s works. Contact Danya at Legend@malcor.com for the time and directions. On June 2nd, QO will be making an official trip to the Southern California Renaissance Pleasure Faire. There are still a couple of tickets available, if you are interested. Contact Danya at Legend@malcor.com for more information. On June 23rd we’ll be holding a QO Midsummer Festival in Aliso Viejo, CA. Both of the QO co-Presidents will be in attendance, and it looks as if Aurora Nelson, president of Golden Grove, will be able to attend as well. [Ed. Note: Aurora is no longer president of Golden Grove, 2/16/02.] We’re very excited about this event! Contact Danya at Legend@malcor.com for directions and additional information. We know that get-togethers are being planned elsewhere in the world as well. Keep watch in this newsletter for details. We’ll let you know what’s going on where as soon as we find out <g>! Oh, and keep watch on the boards in our Delphi forum. Lots of planning goes on there!
That said, we now return to our series of artist interviews. In this issue we talk with Herald An’Talyah Brighthawk, whose work you’ve seen in some of our newsletters and on the Dragonlords website.
Zhai'helleva,
Herald-Mage Master Danya Winterborn and Healer Adept Moonstar
Wow. I'm pretty sure I was a junior in High School, so that'd make it around 1994-1995-ish. My persona was approved in May of 1995.
Well, the first book of Misty's I ever read was Winds of Fate. How confused was I! I bought it because I liked the cover, and at the time, I hadn't gotten myself used to looking inside the covers to see if it was part of a series. But I ended up *really*, *really* liking it and from there, it was history. I had to get my hands on every Valdemar book I could. Later, I started reading some from her other series.
I read anything from New Age and Self-Help books to Erotica, Dark Fantasy (which is one of my most favorite things to read. Me without a Laurell K. Hamilton and/or Tanya Huff book to read is torture. :)~), and pure good old fashioned fiction. If it looks and sounds good, I'll give it a try. Especially if it was recommended to me.
I'm a rock/alternative kinda gal, but again, like books, my music collection is very eclectic. Filk mingles with rock and Middle Eastern, and Celtic rubs shoulders with classical and folk. :)
Dragon*Con, 1996. :)
No, and likely never will, for a couple different reasons, but mostly because there's no desire for me to do that. It's purely hobby and not exactly sell-worthy. :)
Anything fantasy, or fantasy-like because it's different from the "norm". If it doesn't exist, you can let your imagination run wild.
Nope.
When I get that little tickle in my head and itching in my fingers. So, not too often. :) I have to feel like drawing, or otherwise, chances are it won't turn out to good.
Lately, just life. ::chuckle:: I've been trying to get some of my own writing done, but there just isn't the time. Eventually. :)
Here are the faires we know about that are happening in May. Faires are indexed alphabetically by state. Have any information about any other Ren Faires in your area? Send it to us at Legend@malcor.com

We have individual handouts for aspiring Heralds, Healers, Bards, Blues, Mercenaries, Tayledras, Shin'a'in, and White Winds Sorcerers/Sorceresses and instructions on how to work for Herald-Mage status if you are already a Herald or for a Kal'enedral if you are already a Shin'a'in. You can find these handouts online at http://www.dragonlordsnet.com/qohandouts.htm.
You need a release form (online at http://www.dragonlordsnet.com/qomlrel2.htm) if you write a story set in Misty's worlds or using any of her characters. You do not need a release for a character sketch, poem or filk. All Misty wants to do is protect her characters and her worlds. Send the release form (you do NOT need to include the story) to Misty c/o High Flight Arts and Letters, P.O. Box 2970, Claremore, OK 74017. Do NOT include the original of the release form with your persona material; send it to Misty. Send a copy to us.
All personae materials should be sent to the QO address or submitted by e-mail to Legend@malcor.com and healermoon@gmail.com.
This is a very special newsletter for us. It marks our first year running Queen’s Own, and most of our feedback so far has been great. We thank you for that and want you to know we love hearing from you. I believe that is what makes our club so special. I know many of you; we have become friends through e-mail, and it makes me happy that we are all so close. Beyond gushing, there are three topics I wish to address this issue.
The first is our club has grown from twenty members when we started to eighty members now. It is delightful when old members come out of the woodwork. We also approved twelve of those members ourselves. We have 85 people currently working on personas, some of which we expect to be finished soon. The Queen’s Own website has had over 13,500 visitors this year! The Delphi forum for members has about 350 posts, which is nearly one a day. The subjects cover many of our common interests and are a great way to get to know each other. This is one of my favorite ways to find out how you all are doing.
Secondly, I was asked recently by a friend "Why should I join Queen’s Own? It seems like a lot of work when I can read the newsletters with art for free." Our club is so much more than receiving the newsletter in your box on the first of each month. You get invited to the private areas of Queen’s Own including the Delphi forum and chat as well as the e-mail chats. This summer there are at least three get-togethers in Southern California for Queen’s Own members, and others are being planned around the world. I think one of the best things about becoming a member is creating your persona. Misty really wants to emphasize education in her club as well as community service. Danya and I wholeheartedly support both pursuits. It was one of our reasons for continuing the club. In Queen’s Own you meet lots of like-minded people-I know I have.
Lastly, I want to mention Children of Velgarth, vol. 2, issue 2, is due out May 1st. Please send all checks to the P.O. Box. I am going to move at the end of May, and I don’t want any lost orders. In case you hadn’t heard Jan Tellevast won the art contest with her "Healer" piece. Everything published in the newsletter and zine from now on will be considered for the art contest, which will be a yearly event. The next winner will be announced April 1, 2002.
On a personal note, my move to California is impending. The movers are packing everything up on the 24th and 25th of May, and everything will be picked up Memorial Day. To make matters more confusing, I am not sure when I am leaving Montana. I can guarantee I will be in California by June 14th and probably sooner. I will also be in California May 10-19 to close escrow on my new house, and my husband is going to a job fair. The best part is I get to stay with my best friend and co-President Danya.
Keep writing my friends; there are two new newsletters, which need submissions.
Hugs-
Moonstar
The newsletter is routinely posted to the Net. If you are concerned about your address falling into unfriendly hands, don't place a fan message! You may answer fan messages without ever placing one yourself. The editors reserve the right to edit--and shorten!--all messages. (Remember to tell your Post Office about your alternative name if you wish to receive mail addressed to your persona at an addressed where you receive mail under your real name.)
The only "fee" for a fan message is to write to two other people. If your mailbox is empty, don't complain--write letters!
