Heyla, Misty fans!

It’s hard to believe that another school year has come and gone. Moonstar left California about a week ago, and Danya doesn’t know where she is at the moment. If she does get in touch with any of you, her birthday is on June 3rd. Wish her "Happy Birthday!"

Danya has been back at work on the website. All of the 2005 newsletters are now online, and a few more from past years have been added. We do need art for the online versions of the newsletters. If you have any, please send it to Danya at Legend@malcor.com.

If you change your e-mail address, please let us know! Send Danya your old address and the new one along with your request that your information be updated. Our section of "Lost" members continues to grow because we no longer have working e-mail addresses for some people. Do take a moment to look over the list and let us know if you have a new address for any of these people. We miss them, and we’d like to be able to send them their newsletters again .

Publication news:

This Rough Magic: Heirs of Alexandria, co-authored with Eric Flint and Dave Freer, will be available in paperback the first of June.

Bedlam’s Edge, the next installment in the Bedlam’s Bard series coauthored with Rosemary Edghill, is still on track for an August release, as is the paperback release of Children of the Night.

The fourth and newest installment in Misty’s Elemental Masters series, The Wizard of London, is coming in early October. While you’re there, you can pick up a paperback copy of the third Elemental Masters book, Phoenix and Ashes.

On November 1, look for the paperback version of Misty’s Winter Moon: Moontide/The Heart of the Moon/Banshee Cries, coauthored with Tanith Lee and C.E. Murphy.

You won’t have to wait too long for the next installment of the Bedlam’s Bard series: Music to My Sorrow, by Mercedes Lackey and Rosemary Edghill, hits shelves in hardcover on December 1. And if you’ve been itching for new stories in paperback about everyone’s favorite fantasy realm, Valdemar, be sure to pick up Misty’s Crossroads and Other Tales of Valdemar.

The New Year will be a busy one for you readers; Stoned Souls (with Josepha Sherman, edited by James P. Baen) will be released, as will two paperback Misty collaborations: The Wizard of Karres with Eric Flint and Dave Freer and Misty’s latest editing stint, Mapping the World of Harry Potter. Speaking of Harry Potter, you can pre-order Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince at http://www.dragonlordsnet.com/bkjuvhp.htm with delivery guaranteed for the day of release, July 16th. Remember, a portion of all purchases made through the Dragonlords’ Bookstore, http://www.dragonlordsnet.com/bkstore.htm, go to support Queen’s Own. This is how we keep our memberships free, so we greatly appreciate your patronage.

Chapter News:

Farflying Arrow, the German chapter of Queen’s Own, reports that they are working on translating character sheets into German for people interested in joining QO. We’re really excited about seeing those submissions when they arrive.

Arrows OnLine, the AOL chapter of QO, reports that they are still up and running although they are going through a few transitions at the moment.

Mountain Shadow Collegium, the Canadian chapter of QO, checked in as well to say that they now have their website up at http://mountain-shadow.tripod.com/.

If you run a chapter of QO, do drop us a line and let us know what’s going on in your lives. We love to hear from you!

Also, editors (and everyone else who is currently running an ad in the QO newsletter), please check to see if your ads are up to date. Some have not changed in quite some time, and we’re worried about contact information becoming incorrect.

Trivia from a past newsletter: Months in Valdemar are 30 days in length. There are twelve months per year and no Leap Year.

Special thanks to Amber Taufen for her help compiling this edition of the Queen’s Own newsletter! We really appreciate the assistance.

There are all sorts of things that need doing with Queen’s Own. If you have some extra time and would like to volunteer to help out, contact Danya at Legend@malcor.com.

For our special section this month, we have a review of Misty’s Sanctuary, written by Danya. Enjoy!

Have a fabulous summer!

Zhai'helleva,

Herald-Mage Adept Danya Winterborn and Healer Adept Moonstar

Review of Sanctuary by Mercedes Lackey. New York: Daw, 2005, 306 pages. If you haven’t discovered this wonderful series yet, you now have three magnificent adventures awaiting you.

Sanctuary picks up the tale of Kiron and the Jousters of Alta and Tian in their new home at Sanctuary, the city that is slowly reappearing from the desert sands. When a Midnight kamiseen, a powerful desert storm, reveals more of the legendary city, the refugees from the war between Alta and Tia suspect that their numbers are about to swell.

Not much jousting going on in this volume, but several rescues make it a very good thing that Kiron stumbles on a second mysteriously abandoned desert city, which is soon called "Dragon Court." The need for more dragons and jousters spurs several ideas for how to acquire eggs from wild dragons, some of which work better than others.

The refugees begin to hammer out the details of their new society, trying to meld the two cultures into something that will work for all of them. A surprising choice of King, with a not-so-surprising Queen, heads up the new government.

As if just surviving in the desert and creating a new culture weren’t hard enough, the Jousters and refugees also find themselves dealing with the Magi, who are still power hungry and completely out of control. Worse yet, the Magi have apparently had a falling out among themselves, and some of them have left Alta to take over Tia. Several characters would probably be happy if they had nothing greater to worry about than the romantic turns their lives are taking, but the gods clearly have other plans for them. So the ten remaining Jousters and their dragons take to the air to find out if one wing really is enough to confront the disasters that are springing up around them faster than the ongoing earthshakes are bringing Alta City’s walls tumbling down . . .

Cover art is once again by the extremely talented Jody Lee. The images don’t exactly match my mental picture for the dragons and their Jousters, but they are still beautifully done.

You can find all of the Dragon Jousters books listed at http://www.dragonlordsnet.com/bkmlj.htm. Remember that a portion of all sales through the Dragonlords’ Bookstore goes toward Queen’s Own. This is how we keep memberships in the club free, so we greatly appreciate your support!

Collegium News:

We have individual handouts for aspiring Heralds, Healers, Bards, Blues, Mercenaries, Tayledras, Shin'a'in, and White Winds Sorcerers/Sorceresses and instructions on how to work for Herald-Mage status if you are already a Herald or for a Kal'enedral if you are already a Shin'a'in. You can find these handouts online at http://www.dragonlordsnet.com/qohandouts.htm.

You need a release form (online at http://www.dragonlordsnet.com/qomlrel2.htm) if you write a story set in Misty's worlds or using any of her characters. You do not need a release for a character sketch, poem or filk. All Misty wants to do is protect her characters and her worlds. Send the release form (you do NOT need to include the story) to Misty c/o High Flight Arts and Letters, P.O. Box 2970, Claremore, OK 74017. Do NOT include the original of the release form with your persona material; send it to Misty. Send a copy to us.

All personae materials should be sent to the QO address or submitted by e-mail to Legend@malcor.com and healermoon@gmail.com.

We have no new personae to announce this month, but several people are very close to completion. If you were working on a persona who is no longer listed at http://www.dragonlordsnet.com/qochat.htm that means we have not heard from you in over a year. To revive your persona, simply message Danya at Legend@malcor.com and tell her that your persona is in "Deep Storage." She will pull it out for you and reactivate your submission.

If you are a returning member who has recently activated your membership in Queen’s Own and we have forgotten to list you, message Danya at Legend@malcor.com, and she’ll make sure you are greeted in the next newsletter.

Lost . . .

One of the challenges running an online club is that people don’t always leave a forwarding address when they move . We are missing current e-mail addresses for the following members:

If you know any of these folks, please have them contact Danya at Legend@malcor.com with a current e-mail address.

From Herald-Mage Adept Danya Winterborn:

I can’t believe we’re almost at the Summer Solstice! Where has the year gone? I guess that’s what I get for keeping busy.

The Hungarian translation of From Scythia to Camelot is in the final stages of production. It should be available soon.

My trip to Europe has been postponed until next spring or summer. That’s probably just as well since I’m so swamped with writing commitments here in the US.

The book I’m co-authoring on the Sword in the Stone Legend is proceeding apace. I’ve actually been able to get up to UCLA a couple of times to do some additional research. I’m also working on two nonfiction and one fiction books about L. Artorius Castus, the guy I think was the historical King Arthur. I hope to get back to writing fan fiction soon, but the paying stuff has to come first <G>.

I want to apologize for being behind on the issues of Children of Velgarth. I’ve had two or three volumes sitting in my in-box to edit for several months now. I hope to get to them soon.

My husband is bugging me to start up the live version of my writing group, Scriptorium 101, again. This is not a social gathering. The group only accepts writers who are serious about publishing their work professionally. If you live in Southern California and are interested in attending, contact me at Legend@malcor.com. (If you would prefer to join the online version of the group, you can find it at http://www.dragonlordsnet.com/write.htm.)

This should be a busy summer. I’m running summer school at home for my eldest son. We have lots of field trips planned throughout Southern California. If you will be vacationing in the area and would like to get together for coffee or dinner or something, let me know at Legend@malcor.com. I’d love to see you!

Have a fabulous summer vacation, and keep safe!

Zhai’helleva,

Danya
