Herald Kevyn by J.J. Routhier

Heyla, Misty fans!

Sorry this newsletter is a tad late, but we had a last-minute crisis that we wanted to resolve before we contacted you. Moonstar was not able to renew her healermoon.com domain. That means her e-mail address and the addresses for our Queen’s Own chat list, the Vanyel Fan Club chat list, and the Pending list have all had to change. Moonstar’s new e-mail address is:

healermoon@gmail.com

Danya will be taking over the lists and will try to automatically subscribe all current list members. New list information will appear at:

http://www.dragonlordsnet.com/qochat.htm (for the Pending list)

and

http://www.dragonlordsnet.com/vfcchat.htm (for the VFC chat list).

We have lost the information for the Queen’s Own chat list as a result of this change. You will need to resubscribe through the links at

http://www.dragonlordsnet.com/qochat.htm

Sorry for the inconvenience! Please contact Danya if you are a member of one of these lists and have not heard from her in the next few days. Danya has to update over 150 pages of the website with Moonstar’s new information, so please be patient. There are going to be some out-of-date pages and links that don’t work for a while.

Herald Alora writes to tell us about a great website (http://www.elfwood.com) that she found:

"Elfwood is a worldwide home to Fantasy/Sci-Fi art and literature, which has grown immensely since its humble beginnings in May of 1996. This nonprofit site is dedicated to publishing works by artists in the areas of fantasy, sci-fi, fandom, and written works (stories and poetry of related themes). The site also offers How-To Guides, an online newsletter, forums, and other links.

"Allowing all fantasy artists and writers to show their works to the general public, Elfwood helps them gain a reputation and critiques, creative and supportive comments, and contacts. (Copyright and all rights therein are maintained by the artists and writers.)

"Elfwoods goal is to continue working with amateurs and pros, in the field of art and fiction, while giving numerous new artists an excellent opportunity to publish their material; while ever expanding their site.

"I have an art gallery of my own in Elfwood, and I've found it a wonderfully motivational and inspiring community for artists, writers, and everyone who enjoys the boundless world of fantasy, myths, creations, and dreams . . . I recommend this site highly!"

Please note that, according to the Elfwood rules, "Your artwork and/or writing must be 100% your own work. If the art/writing is not fully yours, from idea to finished creation, then don't put it up HERE." Please note that no public posting of Mercedes Lackey fanfiction is allowed on the Internet. (This includes talking in character in chatrooms or sending stories via e-mail. The only exception is that there are approved QO RPG events, and we will notify you when and where those will occur.) You can submit fanfiction to and read it in the various approved Mercedes Lackey fanzines. The approved fanzines are listed at:

http://www.dragonlordsnet.com/qofanfic.htm

You can also find contact information below in this newsletter. Be aware that while most of these publications are still going strong, some are up for adoption and others have discontinued publication. We try to keep our contact information as up to date as possible, but sometimes things do not get changed as quickly as we would like.

Also note that every time you write a story based on Misty's stories, you need to file a release form with High Flight. (Releases are not required for art or poetry.) You can find the release form at:

http://www.dragonlordsnet.com/qomlrel2.htm

Please support all of our fanzines. Our editors need as much fanfiction, artwork, and other materials as you can send them <g>. The Queen’s Own fanzines are some of the best we’ve ever seen in fandom, and we’re very proud of them. Please, subscribe and contribute to them.

Instead of an interview this month, we have a brief article from Queen’s Own member Herald Alora about her business. You’ve seen her art in many of our newsletters and Queen’s Own fanzines. In fact, she just won last year’s submission contest for the person who sent the most art or stories to our QO zines. Herald Alora’s work is extraordinary. Do check out what she has to offer!

Zhai'helleva and Happy New Year,

Herald-Mage Adept Danya Winterborn and Healer Adept Moonstar

In the mid-1990's, while actively involved in fandom I decided to offer my artistry to others (beyond artwork submissions to newsletters and zines). With a lack of fantasy-related products on the market and wanting to produce items that were both useful and enjoyable, I began [my business]. Various stationery and bookmark designs--inspired by myths, magic, and dreams--are available, while some of my designs are influenced by the magical writings of Mercedes Lackey (one of my favorite writers!).

Seeking to revitalize my small business, I have recently expanded my product line, offering more stationery and, now, card packs in a multitude of designs from sci-fi to fantasy. This includes my Furry Angel Series, which are cat angel (one dog and cat design, too) cards.

Depending upon sales, feedback, and production costs, I hope to further expand, diversify, and customize [Editor's Note: Out of date information withheld.].

Thank you!

Collegium News:

We have individual handouts for aspiring Heralds, Healers, Bards, Blues, Mercenaries, Tayledras, Shin'a'in, and White Winds Sorcerers/Sorceresses and instructions on how to work for Herald-Mage status if you are already a Herald or for a Kal'enedral if you are already a Shin'a'in. You can find these handouts online at http://www.dragonlordsnet.com/qohandouts.htm.

You need a release form (online at http://www.dragonlordsnet.com/qomlrel2.htm) if you write a story set in Misty's worlds or using any of her characters. You do not need a release for a character sketch, poem or filk. All Misty wants to do is protect her characters and her worlds. Send the release form (you do NOT need to include the story) to Misty c/o High Flight Arts and Letters, P.O. Box 2970, Claremore, OK 74017. Do NOT include the original of the release form with your persona material; send it to Misty. Send a copy to us.

We do not have any new personae to announce this month, but roughly 150 people are working on them!

All personae materials should be sent to the QO address or submitted by e-mail to Legend@malcor.com and healermoon@gmail.com.

No formerly accepted members have returned to Queen’s Own this month.

If you are a returning member who has recently activated your membership in Queen’s Own and we have forgotten to list you, message Danya at Legend@malcor.com, and she’ll make sure you are greeted in the next newsletter.

Lost . . .

One of the challenges running an online club is that people don’t always leave a forwarding address when they move . We are missing current e-mail addresses for the following members:

If you know any of these folks, please have them contact Danya at Legend@malcor.com with a current e-mail address.

From Healer Adept Moonstar:

Welcome to the New Year! We have had lots of interest in the club and lots of new members this year. I found myself overwhelmed in mundania.

I have been caught up in a pending transfer to a different store. I will still be doing the same job just at a store that is a bit closer. My transfer should be complete about February 3rd. My ex-husband seems to be doing everything in his power to make my life difficult, but I think I have that under control as well. School is still overwhelming and very difficult. If any of you know lots about Visual Basic, please let me know because I am in desperate need of homework help!

Unfortunately I am not able to afford my webspace for the next few months so my site will be coming down and most of my e-mails will no longer work. Please e-mail me at: healermoon@gmail.com; make a note of the change in your address books!

I am getting better about keeping up with my e-mail. If I owe you an e-mail, please drop me a line!

Love to you all!

Moonstar
