Dear Misty Fans,

I hope you've all found By the Sword in your bookstores by mow. It's lovely to have a nice fat book by Misty to read, but oh, it interferes with everything else I have to do, including sleeping and getting to work on time.

Michelle Lutz has agreed to serve as QO reporter for those of us who don't have GEnie. This is what Misty has to say about the McCaffrey collaboration: "This will be a brainship book. I can now say definitely that it will involve a pair with very strong feelings for each other, with the Brawn half being a Primary Scout (first guy to take a look at the place) whose specialties are xenology and archaeology. There will probably be music incolved as well, and I must admit that I am tempted to have the Brawn's interest be classical Baroque and the Brain's rock'n'roll for a nice point of conflict!"

If the Brain and Brawn references confuse you, read McCaffrey's The Ship Who Sang.

The Oathbound tape is done! Unfortunately, Firebird's duplicator must have been visited by my computer gremlin. Some copies of the tape have background static and noise. Teri Lee says Firebird will instantly replace your defective copy; just mail it back to them.

Firebird features much Misty-related merchandise besides her tapes and books. Their winter flyer is a trasure chest of T-shirts, soft sculptures, and even pewter jewelry, designed by Misty and Larry themselves. The Crest of Valdemar pendant is beautiful! If your not already on Firebird's mailing list, send your address to [Ed. note 2003: Out-of-date information withheld. Firebird's website is at http://www.firebirdarts.com.]

Tess Wade of Tatterdemalion is selling T-shirts of the "Witch Brigade" comic strip that was first shown at SonnerCon. Diana Tregarde looks suspiciously like Misty. The shirts are [Ed. note 2003: Out-of-date information withheld.].

Convention News

CoastCon XIV The Year fo the Dragon is March 15-17 in Biloxi. Misty and Larry plan to attend. [Ed. note 2003: Out-of-date information withheld.]

Roc-Kon 15 is May 3-5 in Little Rock, Arkansas. Besides having Misty as GoH, the con claims to be the site of the "1991 International Klingon Assassin's League Conference. For more info, write to [Ed. note 2003: Out-of-date information withheld.].

We int he Northeast are very excited about "our" convention, September 27-29. Misty is GoH and Larry, Guest Artist, at Contradiction 11 in Niagara Falls. You can write now for registration information to [Ed. note 2003: Out-of-date information withheld.]. Qyeen's Own has been invited to present a panel discussion--our choice of topic. I still need ideas! If you plan to attend, make your hotel reservation by [Ed. note 2003: Out-of-date information withheld.]. This is an ideal con for you youngsters to attend; your family can come along and enjoy sightseeing while you enjoy the con activities.

Misty and Larry will visit me in North Jersey during the first weekend of June. Misty is DAW's featured author at the American Bookseller's Association annual convention in Manhattan. Naturally, her duties there come first but we're planning a one day mini-con for QO members. I'll give more details as we work them out.

Gaylaxicon '91 is July 19-21 in Tewksberry, Massachusetts. It is a small con (about 125 people last year) and it is specifically for gay people and their friends. The Guest of Honor is Samuel R. Delaney, Guest Artists are Hannah G. Shapero and Tristan Alexander. [Ed. note 2003: Out-of-date information withheld.] If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must attend with you.

My thanks to Adina North for the border ont he January newsletter and to Karen Heinz for her Falcon letters, the December border. The folks at the print shop really enjoy the creativity of our members.

Interested in earning your whites but not sure how to go about it? [Ed. note 2003: Out-of-date information withheld. You can find the current instructions at http://www.dragonlordsnet.com/qohandouts.htm.] Why is it "Chris Johnson's Helpful Handout"? The guidelines for becoming a Herald were discussed in many newsletters. Chris earned his whites by consolidating all that information into one easy-to-read handout.

Hello from Herald Housemother:

It's still nagging time: Please, please, put a return address on every letter you send to me or to a penpal. And make sure your last name is visible somewhere. There are now about 510 of us. Not surprisingly, some of us share the same first name.

Our 510+ members live in Australia, Bermuda, Canada, England, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Philippines, Scotland, and every state of the US. I've answered inquiries from Guam and Bolivia. We're as young as eleven and as old as nver mind. What we seem to ahve in common besides our love for Misty's books is our love and respect for each other. I'm very proud to be known as your Herald Housemother!

Brad Averch informs me GRUPS stands for "Generic Universal Role Playing System".

From Patricia Shaw Mathews and Judith Louvis:

We are working together on a fan club for Lois McMaster Bujold tentatively called "Miles' Minions." Lois writes science fiction, not fantasy, but oh, her characters. I especially recommend Warrior's Apprentice, Brothers in Arms, and The Vor Game. If you've never read SF because you think it's all rocket ships and laser pistols, try any one of Lois's books. Pat is editing Samizdat Barrayar, the zine for Miles Vorkosigan fans, and I'm writing the newsletter, "The Dendarii Dispatch." Pat welcomes articles, essays, poetry, stories, and book reviews. Send your submissions to [Ed. note 2003: Out-of-date information withheld. See our current newsletter for up-to-date contact information.] For a completely list of Lois's work, and news of her convention appearances, send a SASE to [Ed. note 2003: Out-of-date information withheld.]. The newsletter will be mailed with the regularity of a Dendarii Free Mercenary payroll!

From Stephanie Anderson:

At last, my tahlmorra calls to start the Jennifer Roberson Fan Club. For an introductory letter, please send a SASE to [Ed. note 2003: Out-of-date information withheld.]. My first problem is a suitable club name; suggestions would gladly be appreciated. (Stephaie's father is in the American military; you can put US postage on your SASE.)
