Young Companions Watching the Obstacle Course by Lily Evans

Heyla, Misty fans!

No, this isn’t an April Fool’s joke. You really did get the QO newsletter on time (even a little ahead of time). Danya’s a bit swamped over the next few months (see her letter below), so we’re trying to work ahead on the newsletters.

Publication News: Diana Tregarde fans rejoice! This from Firebrid: "[R]umor is that Tor is going to re-issue the three Diana Tregarde books: Children of the Night (which is now out of print), Burning Water, and Jinx High (which has been out of print forever).”

Exile’s Valor is scheduled to appear in paperback October 2004.

Other than that, everything still remains pretty much on the schedule that was reported last month.

Chapter News: Herald's Waystation is (at least temporarily) closed. Herald Auralynn hasn’t been responding to messages, and Herald Enyo is now living in New York. Are any of the other Southern chapters functioning? If so, please message Danya at Legend@malcor.com so we can send interested parties in your direction. If Herald’s Waystation does come back online, do let us know.

We are also getting interest in starting a Western Canadian chapter of QO. If you want to join, please e-mail Danya at Legend@malcor.com, and she’ll try to hook you folks together.

Costume Ideas: Herald Lily writes: "I have a leather worker who is making me a face plate and breastplate from Winds of Fury [for my horse] and who would be happy to make other Companion gear for those in Queen's Own. Price depends on what is being made. I am also getting the other hackamores done from the other book images. They can be done in the blue or even black as on request." If you are interested, message Danya at Legend@malcor.com, and she will put you in touch with Herald Lily.

We have a winner!: Congratulations to our very own Bard Elita (Rae Sinko)! She's the winner selected for the Luna Writing Circle Contest we announced in the QO newsletter. To read more about the Luna Writing Circle, visit http://www.electricartists.com/luna/circle/.

More Fan Publication News: Adept Starfeather (Mary Wilson) writes: "My science fiction serial, Tobine Chronicles, will go live later this month at http://www.anotherchapter.com. Here's a blurb:

"’The Rikan Revolution meant nothing to Tenni Urris as she pulled her husband's body from the rubble of her destroyed home. Not when the Dorrine bombing had just destroyed everything she loved. Her husband had fallen next to the crib where their three-month old child had slept and died. With her family dead, all she wanted was to get as far away from their petty war as she could and try to rebuild her life. Surely somewhere people lived without fear for their lives.’"

To read Starfeather’s work visit http://www.anotherchapter.com/StoryInfo.asp?ID=18.

Mentors: Pending QO member Firefall k’Shira has become our newest mentor! Firefall is willing to answer questions about pet (dog/cat/bird) behavior/training. For more information about the QO mentor program, visit http://www.dragonlordsnet.com/qomentor.htm.

Misty Song Alert: Josephine Marie Thane, Bard Magpie’s bandmate, writes: "Minstrosity (http://minstrosity.com) is including a Misty song on our third CD, Why Am I Not Surprised?, coming out this Spring (we hope . . . ). The song is ‘The Ferryman's Fee’. . . . Misty OK'd [the project], and we've recorded the base tracks--just have to overdub backing vocals and bass guitar . . .

"We'll [also] be at the Oklahoma Ren. Faire this year, and ‘Ferryman's Fee’ will be in our daily rotation."

Appearance Alert: "Air New Zealand had a big special going, and we [Misty and Larry] decided we can't stand yearning over New Zealand anymore. So we are taking a month to go back. We'll be in New Zealand between November 5 and December 3, 2004.

"Hope to see many of you folks there.

"Misty"

Listserv Problems: Our problems with our various lists (the Queen’s Own Chat List, Pending List, Vanyel Fan Club and Scriptorium continue). VeoWeb is still looking into it, but they have not figured out what caused the lists to disappear yet. We hope to have them back up and running again soon.

Happy Easter, Passover and Spring!

Zhai'helleva,

Herald-Mage Adept Danya Winterborn and Healer Adept Moonstar

We have individual handouts for aspiring Heralds, Healers, Bards, Blues, Mercenaries, Tayledras, Shin'a'in, and White Winds Sorcerers/Sorceresses and instructions on how to work for Herald-Mage status if you are already a Herald or for a Kal'enedral if you are already a Shin'a'in. You can find these handouts online at http://www.dragonlordsnet.com/qohandouts.htm.

You need a release form (online at http://www.dragonlordsnet.com/qomlrel2.htm) if you write a story set in Misty's worlds or using any of her characters. You do not need a release for a character sketch, poem or filk. All Misty wants to do is protect her characters and her worlds. Send the release form (you do NOT need to include the story) to Misty c/o High Flight Arts and Letters, P.O. Box 2970, Claremore, OK 74017. Do NOT include the original of the release form with your persona material; send it to Misty. Send a copy to us.

All personae materials should be sent to the QO address or submitted by e-mail to Legend@malcor.com and healermoon@gmail.com.

If you were working on a persona who is no longer listed at http://www.dragonlordsnet.com/qochat.htm that means we have not heard from you in over a year. To revive your persona, simply message Danya at Legend@malcor.com and tell her that your persona is in "Deep Storage." She will pull it out for you and reactivate your submission.

If you are a returning member who has recently activated your membership in Queen’s Own and we have forgotten to list you, message Danya at Legend@malcor.com, and she’ll make sure you are greeted in the next newsletter.

One of the challenges running an online club is that people don’t always leave a forwarding address when they move . We are missing current e-mail addresses for the following members:

Kantor as Silver by Lily Evans

From Herald-Mage Adept Danya Winterborn:

Heyla, folks!

My life has become completely insane <g>. In addition to my career being in overdrive, which will result in me traveling to Germany and Italy at the end of this month, we spotted a house we love in a nearby city and have abruptly decided to sell our house and move. If everything goes through, we’ll be commuting back to my eldest son’s current school for a few weeks so he can finish the school year there. I’m going to be ridiculously busy for a while, but we’ll wind up in a larger house without CC&Rs and in a much better school district, which I think will work better for all of us. Plus, the yard’s big enough that I’ll be able to get a collie again, something I’ve been wanting to do since my last one died well over 16 years ago. I’m very excited!

The Sci-Fi Summit in Pasadena was a blast! I had a lot of fun. Michael Rosenbaume (Lex Luthor from Smallville) turned out to be a fantastic speaker; I really enjoyed listening to him interact with the fans. Brent Spiner (Data from Star Trek: The Next Generation) had me laughing harder than I’ve laughed in a long, long time. Leonard Nimoy (Mr. Spock from the original Star Trek series) was classy as always. William Shattner (Captain Kirk from the original Star Trek series) raised a ton of money for the charity he supports that uses horseback riding as a form of therapy for children who have a wide variety of disabilities and health problems. John Rhys-Davies (Gimli from The Lord of the Rings) talked about his Indiana Jones days and reports that it looks as if a fourth movie will indeed be made. Wil Wheaton (Wesley Crusher from Star Trek: The Next Generation) gave a series of wonderful readings from his books; he’s quite the fabulous writer and an excellent entertainer (You can check out his work at http://www.wilwheaton.net/.). There were panels from Star Wars, Enterprise and many other shows. I’m tired, but I met a lot of great fans and had a wonderful time.

I’ll be chairing a panel at the California Folklore Society on April 2nd at Cal State, Northridge. I’m giving a paper entitled "From Scythia to West Africa: Ogun and the Sword in the Stone Legend". If you’ll be in the area, let me know. I’d love to get together and say "Heyla!"

I leave for Germany on April 28th, and I’ll be in Düsseldorf on the 29th and 30th. On the 30th I’ll be presenting a lecture entitled "The Campanians of the Round Table: The Artorii, Flora and the Holy Grail" at Ruhr-Universität Bochum (http://www.ruhr-uni-bochum.de/). Then May 1st through 5th I’ll be at various sites in Campania, Italy and in Rome. I’m crazy busy, but I’d love to make time to see any of you who live in the area. Message me at Legend@malcor.com, and we’ll set something up.

Zhai’helleva,

Danya
