Welcome to the Dragonlords of Dumnonia newsletter for Ryanon's Base Camp. The following is information to keep you up-to-date on what's happening around Centuria. Good luck to you in battle or adventure.

Events

These are upcoming online events. Please check the message board on the main site and the events schedule on the Members Only site frequently. Dates do change occasionally, and other information you need to enjoy the RPs is linked to each event. We don't want to clutter your mailboxes with all of this data, so please make use of the website as much as you can.

Special Note:  This month's RP will be held on Delphi. Note the change! If people like this new system, we will abandon IRC and go with Delphi permanently. You should have received your invite in your e-mail, but not all of you have visited the forum yet. Please do so prior to the event if you have not done so already. If you need an invite to the forum, message me at Legend@malcor.com.

FROM THE DRAGONLORD

Special Note: The essay for this issue os giest-authored by Danielle DiFronzo. Here is her report of Dragon*Con.

Dragon*Con, an annual Science Fiction and Fantasy convention held in Atlanta, Georgia, is considered one of North America's largest sci-fi conventions. Though to call it simply a science fiction and fantasy convention would be an understatement. Along with sci-fi and fantasy, Dragon*Con has over 500 hours of panels, workshops, demos and discussions, along with signings, open and live role-playing, card and dice, board, miniature and computer game tournaments.

There are numerous tracks at Dragon*Con from television to authors and books to gaming. Some of the ones you'll find: Star Trek, Star Wars, X-Files, Highlander, Anne McCaffrey's Pern, British sci-fi television, filksinging, gaming . . . The list goes on, and there's bound to be at least one thing there that you're bound to find interesting.

Other activities at Dragon*Con include concerts, movie viewings and a huge masquerade. The music played at the concerts is usually alternative and gothic, so if you don't enjoy it, it's not recommended, but perhaps a filk sing would do instead. Groups of people gather to hear and sing and play acoustic music that has a basis in sci-fi and fantasy and are often parodies. Other impromptu activities include a late night drum circle and people are always throwing parties, though most are invite only.

Dragon*Con is a great place to meet new people and make new friends, though anyone not familiar with conventions of this sort may find some people a bit shocking. One of the more fun parts of conventions is to dress in costume, and the costumes and clothing vary as much as the people who attend. Klingons and Bjorans mingle with people from the Renaissance, and bellydancers may be friends with a dominatrix and a Jedi. Clothing can be goth and fetish to medieval and fantasy.

Some of the guests at this years Dragon*Con included:

Apollo Smile
Kevin J. Anderson
Anne McCaffrey and her son Todd
Larry Elmore
Brian Froud
David Prowse
Adam West

As for the dealer's room . . . they have hundreds of dealers with wares varying from jewelry and art, books and movies, gaming materials, all kinds of costumes and other amazing things hard to find in "normal" places. Come prepared to spend.

The convention runs four days, from a Thursday to Sunday. Membership for all four days depends on when you buy them. It usually runs from $45 to $50 then $60 at the door. The past two years, Dragon*Con has taken place primarily at the Hyatt on Peachtree St. and the Apparel Mart. There is some walking to do, but it is all relatively close and there are other hotels and inns in the immediate area. The URL for the official Dragon*Con web page:

http://www.dragoncon.org

As a complete whole, I highly recommend Dragon*Con. It's amazing fun, you meet all kinds of cool people and it's just four fun days to dress up and go crazy. Have fun!

Danielle DiFronzo,
Dragonrider Ronilei

Dragonlords' T-shirt

Since no designs have been submitted for a club T-shirt, we're going to put this project on hold until the club decides they want one.

If you would like to submit a design for the club T-shirt, send your suggestion in .gif or .jpg format to Dragonlord Krin at Legend@malcor.com. Try to keep your design suggestions to four colors or less, since that will significantly cut our costs.

As soon as at least two submissions are received, Krin will put the suggestions up on a webpage so we can vote on what we like best. Once the design is chosen, Krin will put up a sign-up sheet so we can see how many people actually want the shirts. Pricing will vary, depending on how many shirts are ordered.

You have completed your assignment thus far;
continue to strive onwards.

Until next forum,
keep safe!
