This is the only remaining castle on the Other Continent. Comprised mostly of plains that roll gently away from Geron Firelord's volcano, Tramson boasts some of the finest horses on Centuria. While the current Lord specializes in racers, many fine breeds have come from Tramson lands. Bounded on the north, west and part of the south by mountains, and the remainder of the south by rolling hills, Tramson stretches over an area the size of Daethia. Tramson contains enough satellite Guilds at the castle to make the inhabitants self-sufficient. All the remaining manors and cottages on the Other Continent look to Tramson for protection. There are many rumors of the "Tramson Curse," all of which deal with the unfortunate string of deaths that have plagued the Lords since the founding of the castle, nearly two thousand one hundred years ago. There is some speculation that Lord Janix has managed to maintain his firm grip on his land because he is a minion of the Dark One. The lesser nobles and cottagers under him, however, swear that he owes his success in part to his phenomenal skill as a commander and in part to his friendship with his neighbor, Geron Firelord.
The current Lord and Lady are Janix and his third wife, Hana. Lord Janix's daughter by his first marriage is his named heir, Lady Jalla. She resides at Joint Venture Cottage near Cassatill Manor in Daethia with her husband, Cottager Kristopher.
In addition to being a superb warrior, Lord Janix has become a mage through long association with Geron Firelord. Together, Janix and Geron Firelord have preserved this final bastion of the forces of Light on the Other Continent, with all surviving refugees crowded within Tramson's borders. Lord Janix gives sanctuary to anyone who will help him defend his lands against the Dark One's forces. The Light help anyone, however, who crosses this mighty Lord.
Lord Janix has every right to be proud of his magnificent racetrack, a ridiculous luxury on this war-torn world. The track is capable of handling any length of race and departs from some in that it is shaped like an oval rather than a straight track. This way the spectators can see both the beginning and the end of any race. The finish line was placed for easy viewing from the head table at the dance floor as well as from castle castle windows (most specifically, the Lord's office windows <g>).
North of the track are picket lines and paddocks for housing the racing strings as well as any stock that cannot be housed among the market stalls. The stables, which are clevrely housed inside the mountain proper, are normally used only for Lord Janix's most prized stock, though the mounts of his overnight guests will also be housed there. The stable area has an indoor exercise ground, enabling the beasthandlers to work the animals at any time.
Tramson Castle faces west, gazing from its lofty location out over the vast plains of the castle's lands. Set in the mountains north of Geron Firelord's volcano, the castle takes advantage of the natural "stairstep" plateaus that lead up to the main door. A road wends its way across the front of the castle, used on Feast days for the parading of the racers prior to each race. Heading up the ramp, you reach the Festival area, with a vast dance floor, surrounded by tables for the guests. The head table, reserved for Lord Janix and his special guests, faces west, allowing a grand view of the racetrack (not visible on this map). To the south of the dance floor is the platform for the performers, with the Bards' private table situated behind.
Market stalls fill the rest of this first plateau, with the cooks/bakers and the vintners having the stalls nearest the dance floor. The easternmost row is reserved for those selling livestock, as this puts them closest to the castle's refuse heap and keeps the wind from swirling through the lines. If a beast guilder has more stock than can be accommodated at the market stall, additional space can be purchased along the picket lines and in the paddocks to the north of the racetrack (not visible on this map). Also to be found in this row are the farm guilders, selling fresh, dried and canned fruit and vegetables; and the fish guilders, selling a variety of products from the rivers that flow through the mountains. The middle of the three rows contains (from north to south) the following:
The outermost row (from north to south) contains the following:
Tramson Castle is the only place on the Other Continent that is secure enough to hold Feasts and provide a location for trade. All other landowners come here to get their supplies.
Continuing up the next ramp will take us into the main courtyard. The castle proper is designated on the map, but circumstances rarely give anyone reason to intrude there. Only a select few attend feasts held inside the Great Hall; most of us have our fun outside.
